SCOPE
Parklife is in Putney, Southwest London, and offers 68,625 sq. ft of modern business space, with views over Wandsworth Park and the River Thames. The brief was to create tranquil outdoor spaces, including a central courtyard and a rooftop terrace, that would serve as havens for relaxation and social interaction, enhancing the well-being of office occupants.
Key Features:
- smooth, resin-bound gravel pathways and gentle ramps ensure inclusive access throughout the central courtyard.
- breakout areas with raised planters, paired with sustainably sourced hardwood benches for versatile seating.
- high-quality slab paving with strategically planted shrubs and trees to create a visual connection to the adjoining Wandsworth Park and enhance biodiversity.
- thoughtfully selected plants for seasonal interest and planted window boxes adding greenery and visual appeal along key facades.
- integration of key mature tree species for immediate impact, and shade-loving perennials for year-round interest and biodiversity in shaded courtyard areas.
- use of striking, architectural plants like Fatsia polycarpa (Many-fruited Aralia) and low- maintenance groundcover, like Sagina subulata (Irish Moss), to enhance visual drama and contrast.
OUTCOME
The landscape design offers a serene, accessible extension of the office space, incorporating multi-sensory plants and sustainable materials to encourage relaxation, social interaction, and a connection with nature. Prioritising sustainability and accessibility, it creates a vibrant, harmonious landscape that enhances the office environment and blends seamlessly with its surroundings. Biophilic design principles were integrated using natural materials, native planting, and the careful arrangement of greenery to foster a deep connection to nature, reducing stress and promoting well-being.
